CMR ventriculometry for evaluation of ecg hypertrophy criteria in a preventive medicine population

چکیده
Introduction Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is an important prognosticator for cardiovascular (CV) risk in persons with and without arterial hypertension. Given the high prevalence of these conditions, LVH screening is mandatory for CV prevention. Although not evaluated in a middle aged preventive medicine population, Electrocardiography (ECG) is widely used for LVH screening. Although not widely accessible as a screening technique, cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) offers a unique opportunity to calculate LV mass index (LVMI) as the gold standard for other diagnostic tests.

Accuracy of electrocardiographic criteria for atrial enlargement: validation with cardiovascular magnetic resonance
BACKGROUND Anatomic atrial enlargement is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. However, atrial enlargement may not correlate with clinical measures such as electrocardiographic (ECG) criteria. Past studies correlating ECG criteria with anatomic measures mainly used inferior M-mode or two-dimensional echocardiographic data. We sought to determine the accuracy of the ECG to predic...
متن کاملElectrocardiographic (ECG) criteria for determining left ventricular mass in young healthy men; data from the LARGE Heart study
BACKGROUND Doubts remain over the use of the ECG in identifying those with increased left ventricular (LV) mass. This is especially so in young individuals, despite their high prevalence of ECG criteria for LV hypertrophy. We performed a study using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR), which provides an in vivo non-invasive gold standard method of measuring LV mass, allowing accurate assess...
متن کاملElectrocardiographic diagnosis of left ventricular hypertrophy in aortic valve disease: evaluation of ECG criteria by cardiovascular magnetic resonance
BACKGROUND Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is a hallmark of chronic pressure or volume overload of the left ventricle and is associated with risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. The purpose was to evaluate different electrocardiographic criteria for LVH as determined by cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR). Additionally, the effects of concentric and eccentric LVH on depolariza...
متن کاملSensitivity and specificity of ECG criteria of left atrial enlargement in comparison to cardiac magnetic resonance in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
Background. In patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), left atrial (LA) enlargement has been related to increased risk of sudden cardiac death. Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) is the method of choice in the assessment of LA size and volume. However, initial assessment of LA enlargement is often made by means of ECG criteria including P wave analysis in leads II and V1. The aim of the ...
متن کاملUsing CMR to improve the diagnostic accuracy of the ECG for the detection of left ventricular hypertrophy; production of a simple adjustment for body mass index
Background The electrocardiogram (ECG) is the most widely used screening tool to detect left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). However, current diagnostic criteria are highly insensitive, particularly in modern society with increasing prevalence of obesity. We aimed to use cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging to assess anatomical LV axis (frontal and lateral axis) and LV mass across a wide ran...
